Another manga volume of the series has been released, and fans are yet to hear anything about Domestic Girlfriend Season 2. It’s about to be a year since the first season ended. Hence, it’s finally time to raise questions about the future of the popular anime. Will it ever release?
Domestic Girlfriend originated as a manga series written and illustrated by Kei Sasuga back in 2014. Later in January 2019, the story was adapted into an anime show by Diomedéa. It opened up much praise from the audience and critics alike. However, manga-readers disliked the pacing of the plot and strongly disapprove the idea of a second season. On the other hand, a large number of fans are still hoping to get a few more episodes and seek closer for the characters.
Is There Any Hope For ‘Domestic Girlfriend Season 2?’
Fortunately, a number of factors suggest that there’s still pretty much hope for the return of the series. The Diomedéa anime is pretty popular amongst youth from all around the globe. It even became one of the top 20 anime shows on Crunchyroll in 2019. Domesutikku na Kanojo has an extremely large and loyal following waiting for the green flag. Hence, possibilities say that the studio may eventually pick up another season sometime soon.
On the other hand, it’s pretty common for animes to have long gaps between seasons. Unlike most American TV shows, some of the animes like One-Punch Man and Log Horizon, have returned after four to five-year-long hiatuses. Hence, it’s not unusual that Diomedéa is taking some time to make a firm decision.
On the contrary, speculations say that there probably won’t be any more installments. People are suspecting that DomeKano might just be a promotional strategy to increase the sale of the manga series. Such anime series help gain new readers for the manga that want to know the story after the anime. This promotional stunt is actually used by a lot of studios.
Whereas, another disturbing fact supporting the cancelation is that Diomedéa studio and Kodansha are yet to announce a Blu-ray/DVD release of the first season. It’s unusual for producers to not release Season 1 Blu-ray/DVD even after a year of the anime’s release. Also, Diomedéa is infamous for creating only one-season animes. In fact, neither of the shows produced by them has ever returned for a second round.
Well, despite all these reasons, it’s pretty hard to lose hope for Domestic Girlfriend Season 2. The series has much potential and can actually turn out to be a huge success for the creators in the future. The anime is one of the most profitable projects for the studio. Hence, it may not abandon the show at this early stage. Yet, fans must keep on putting up requests which can eventually help in the renewal.
Is There Enough Source Material To Create Season 2?
Domestic Girlfriend manga series has a total of 26 volumes. The latest one recently released on February 17, 2020. The debut season of the anime adaptation consumed less than eight manga volumes in 12 episodes. Hence, Diomedéa still has enough source material to create not just one, but two more installments of the popular anime. Even if they only produce Domestic Girlfriend Season 2, fans expect to get a proper closure for their favorite characters.

What Will Happen Next?

At the end of the debut season, Hina left Natsuo and Rui by moving to a distant school. Whereas, Natsuo and Rui have finally discussed his relationship with Hina. Domestic Girlfriend Season 2 is expected to begin sometime around Chapter 73 of the eighth volume. Natsuo will eventually become a renowned novelist whereas Rui is following her ambition of being a chef. Now that Hina is away, Natsuo and Rui have finally become a couple in the manga series.
However, they soon start to develop problems and eventually break up. Natsuo is now experiencing a writer’s block and is trying to overcome it. The following volumes of the manga series can turn out to be one of the most interesting ones. Hence, Domestic Girlfriend Season 2 can actually turn out to be much better than the first season.
Domestic Girlfriend Season 2 Release Date
Diomedéa is yet to renew the second installment of the popular anime. However, the series may get the green flag anytime soon. Until then, it’s hard to expect Domestic Girlfriend Season 2 anytime sooner than late-2020 or early 2021.
