The popular manga series by Kazue Kato celebrated its tenth anniversary last year. It is currently in continuation and may keep serializing for a few more years. As of early 2020, Kato has published a total of 24 manga volumes. The debut season of the anime adaptation covered the plot of the first four books.
On the other hand, the 2017 sequel adapted volume 5 through 9. Hence, A-1 Pictures has more than enough source material to make Blue Exorcist Season 3. In fact, with the amount of content available, the studio can actually continue releasing more installment of the popular anime.
What Will Happen Next?
The upcoming season of Ao no Exorcist may cover the next four or five books of the manga, i.e. Volume 10 through 13 or 14. The new episodes will find Rin and his friend dealing with a group called the Illuminati. This group is led by Lucifer the King of Light and their main purpose is to resurrect Satan and unleash demons and zombies upon the world.
Blue Exorcist Season 3 may as well feature the invention of the Gehenna Gate. It is a portal between the two worlds, Assiah (the human world), and Gehenna (the demon world). The portal was constructed in the territory of the former Russian nuclear plant by the Illuminati. However, they couldn’t make the engine work. Hence, only the Exorcists had a chance to pass the gate, yet they failed as well. The Illuminati intends to reunite both the worlds and only Rin and his twin brother Yukio can stop them.
When Will ‘Blue Exorcist Season 3’ Release?
A-1 Pictures is yet to order another run of the iconic anime. Hence, it’s hard to predict a release date currently. Yet, even if the green flag comes right away, Blue Exorcist Season 3 may not release anytime sooner than 2021 or 2022.
