It has been four years since the fans last saw Keijo, and now they are eagerly waiting for Keijo Season 2. The anime show was one of the best series of 2016, which revolves around a women-only fictional sport. Since the sport is new, the fans felt that concept really fresh. It has some elements of ecchi anime as well, but most of them were related to sports. So, it never went overboard like other shows and was very subtle.
Keijo, aka Hip Whip Girl, is a Japanese sports comedy anime series. It is a remake of the sports-comedy manga series of the same name by Daichi Sirayami. Xebec Studio produced a 12-episode anime adaptation which made its debut on October 6, 2016. It ended on December 22 of the same year. Along with these twelve episodes, the makers released 6 OVA episodes as well.
Keijo Season 2: Renewal Status!
A few years back, a fake post went viral, which was about the poor reception and the low ratings of the anime. It also included that the manga was not so popular. As a result, the producers will stop publishing it as they already bore some loss. However, that post was fake but went spread like a fire. Many fans even believed that Keijo Season 2 would never happen. But then Sarayomi explained all the situation in his personal blog. He also revealed that he made his decision to end the manga even before the premiere of the anime.
So, the anime series is not canceled. However, the makers haven’t renewed the show for its second season till now. So, the fate of the Keijo anime is still in the air. The fans are continuously demanding to see the second season as they are getting curious to know what will happen next.
Is There Enough Source Material For Another Season?
After the completion of anime’s debut season, there was another rumor that the makers don’t have enough source material for its following installment. However, that was also fake. The author has published a total of 18 volumes which have more than 177 chapters. The first season only adopted the plot till the 90th chapter of the tenth volume. And that means the production company currently has content from 87 chapters to make Keijo Season 2. They can even make two more seasons of the anime series with the remaining source material.
Keijo Season 2: Will The Anime Return?
During the release of the manga’s last chapter, Sorayomi wrote a blog and showed his gratitude to all the readers. However, he did not talk anything about the second season of the anime. Many fans believed that the studio didn’t renew the show because of its poor sales. But Sorayomi revealed that the estimate made by Oricon was wrong, and the anime show lacked sponsors and wasn’t even broadcasted in all regions of Japan. And that’s the main reason behind its low viewership.
However, the show has good ratings as it holds a score of 7.01 on MAL. But now, it is unlikely for the studio to renew the series because of the four years-long hiatus. The fans even created several petitions to save the show. However, it didn’t have any effect on the makers. So, the fans shouldn’t raise their hopes too high to see Keijo Season 2.
