The media houses have always targeted Prince Harry and his family and he took charge of the situation. What happened next, keep reading to find out.
Prince Harry Is Concerned
The High Court has ruled that Prince Harry cannot add new claims against Rupert Murdoch to his legal case against News Group Newspapers (NGN). Judge Mr. Justice Fancourt said these new claims did not add anything important to the case.
Royal family fans know Prince Harry and others are suing NGN, the publisher of The Sun and the now-closed News of the World. They are suing them for phone hacking and unlawful information gathering. NGN denies these allegations and said the court’s decision by not allowing major changes to the case.
Furthermore, The Duke was also not allowed to include events from 1994 and 1995 involving his late mother, Princess Diana, as the judge said it was too late. In addition, he couldn’t add claims that The Sun targeted his girlfriend Meghan in 2016. This all has led to the Duke of Sussex being worried about his family.
However, the court did allow Harry to add claims that the newspapers tapped his landline phones. He is also allowed to make further accusations against journalists and private investigators. Earlier this year, lawyers for other people suing NGN claimed that Rupert Murdoch knew about unlawful activities. They also added that he knew about them from 2004 but ignored them. This created a “culture of impunity” in their company.
Duke Of Sussex Lost Bid To Add Murdoch’s Name
Prince Harry’s lawyer argued that Rupert Murdoch must have known about the wrongdoing at News Group Newspapers (NGN) because he was in charge. However, the judge refused to add new claims against prominent names like Murdoch and said they didn’t add anything important to the case.
The judge also said Harry’s lawyers were trying to make the case bigger than it needed to be. Moreover, he emphasized that the trial set for January next year, should not turn into an investigation.
In March 2024, NGN said Prince Harry’s lawyers tried to add many new allegations irrelevant to the phone hacking claims. The court agreed with NGN and didn’t allow most of these new claims. However, Prince Harry and the other parties were pleased that they could still make some changes to their case.
The trial is now set for January 2025. NGN has already settled many claims with famous people after closing the News of the World in 2011 due to phone hacking issues. The Royal family issues seem never-ending, especially for Prince Harry and Meghan.
