Counting On: The Duggar family is famous for abiding by the rules. No matter what phase of life a Duggar family member is in. The family patriarch has a list of rules ready for them. The ones that hold the highest importance in that scenario is the courtship rules and the family’s code of conduct. On that note, let’s take a look at how this impacts the kids in the family.
Counting On: Duggar Family Preventing kids From Giving Into Their Biological Urges
When kids reach their dating age, there are going to be biological urges. However, the Duggar family has got it all covered with their instruction manual to prevent the kids from surrendering to their biological urges. Of course, we know that they don’t prohibit premarital sex. But they do restrict the front hugging time for about 15 seconds.
Counting On: Jim Not Following The Rules In His Early Age
Jim Bob admitted to not following such a strict set of rules at an early age. But the worst part is that the Duggar adults haven’t been able to launch independent careers of their own. Usually, they are dependant on media earnings. Even the Duggars who tried building something of their own didn’t necessarily succeed.
There have been instances when the Duggars take pride in not letting their marriage end. But that’s not a very high bar for a culture in which divorce is forbidden. Not to mention, one can easily become a social pariah if they split up after marriage.
Moreover, if you have been following the family on social media for a while and watching the show, you must know that there have been serious issues that could have easily resulted in a divorce. However, the family’s religious beliefs prevented couples from taking such a drastic step.
Counting On: Duggar Family Courtship Rules, Too Extreme?
We know the gender inequality that prevails among the Duggars. For instance, Josh has cheated on Anna, molested younger siblings, and landed in sex scandals. Usually, this scenario could have easily gone to court for a divorce settlement. However, Anna has forgiven Josh and they are still together. But has she really forgiven him? Or is divorce simply not an option for her? Similarly, Jim Bob cut off Jill from the family just because her husband spoke about the grey areas of the family.
The courtship rules revolve around two basic tenets, men are not meant to have any control over their sexual urges. Second, the purpose of women is only breeding and catering to household work.
Moreover, they even blame women if a man commits infidelity. Well, maybe that’s the reason why Jana Duggar didn’t marry at all till now! Do you think the rules of the courtship of the Duggar family are hurting their kids? Let us know in the comments below.
