The coming and goings of characters have always affected Emmerdale. This long-running soap opera has seen several characters leaving and returning back. As the soap hits its 51st anniversary, we can expect a number of exciting storylines. From Chloe revealing the secret to the Dingle family drama, fans are looking forward to Super Soap Week. However, only time will reveal the secrets of current storylines. We have to see what changes await the Emmerdale cast this year.
Emmerdale: What Characters Are Leaving The Show?
The first name on the leaving list we have is Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles). The all-time favorite, Bernice, is leaving the show again this year. According to sources, she will mark her fourth exit from Emmerdale. Previously, she quit the show in 2002, then again after a brief return in 2004, and most recently in 2019 after she returned in 2012. For now, it is not confirmed whether Samantha will one day be back, but she is leaving later this year. Bernice has left and returned to the show so many times that fans like to joke that the number of times the barrels in Woolpack are changed is lesser than that. The comment continued, “She’s always welcomed back with open arms by ITV and Emmerdale fans alike, but it’s now becoming a bit of a running joke.
Next on the list, we have David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden). After 17 years, Matthews is all set to quit the soap. Sources say that the reason behind Matthew’s exit is his not getting any center storylines in the past few months. However, he has confirmed his exit storyline. He stated, “There is a resolution of sorts, I can’t give too much away,” he revealed. “Victoria is the reason why he leaves the village. Put it that way.” However, his character has not been killed, so there’s always an open door for his return. Matthew has already started shooting his end scenes, and he will leave by the end of this year.
Here Are The Confirmed Comebacks On The Show
Laura Norton was on maternity leave. She announced her second pregnancy with her partner and former co-star Mark Jordon. She portrays Kerry Wyatt’s character in Emmerdale. Earlier, Kerry left with a broken heart after finding out her dead boyfriend, Al Chapman, had been cheating on her with a mystery lover, which was later revealed to be Chas Dingle. Recently, Kerry made a guest appearance on a video where we saw that she took a job on a cruise. Will she return for her daughter Chloe, who just woke up from a coma after a terrifying accident?
Michelle Hardwick is also on maternity leave. She exited on 30th November 2022. She played Vanessa Woodfield in the show. The reason for her departure was a new year-long dream job in Canada after her friendship fallout with Rhona Goskirk and breakup with girlfriend Suzy Merton. But before leaving, she made up with Rhona and also kissed Suzy. It is certain that Vannesa will start right from where she left off, but will Charity also look forward to a rebound? Confirming her return to Emmerdale, Michelle said, “I’m definitely going back! I’ve not got a date as such; it’ll be later in the year at some point, but definitely, I’ll be back!
