In a heartbreaking statement to the media, EastEnders actress Jane Whittenshaw’s agent confirmed that she has indeed breathed her last. The agent affirmed that Jane passed away peacefully, surrounded by her husband and other loved ones, on August 12, 2023. The veteran star has a shining body of work. However, her best claim to fame role remains that of social worker Anita Banks on EastEnders. Apart from that, she is also known for her stellar work in Call the Midwife.
“It is with profound sadness we must announce the passing of Jane Whittenshaw.” her agent’s statement read. Furthermore, they addressed the EastEnders alum as one of their most loved and highly respected clients. Her agent also attested that they had been associated for over 30 years. Speaking about her last moments, the statement stated that she “slipped away peacefully.” She was surrounded by her husband, Hugh, and her best friend, Rebecca.

Her agent also added that Jane was not just an EastEnders client, but also a dear friend. Furthermore describing her as “generous to a fault” and great fun to be around. Apart from her famous stint on the BBC One soap, Jane was also a voice artist and a star in her own right. She has more than 500 radio plays to her credit. That truly is an extraordinary legacy she has left behind to be remembered by! But that’s not all, she also has a large body of work in theater.
Jane played several roles for several theater plays for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Additionally, she was also a member of the BBC Radio Drama Company. Where she has recorded over 400 plays for the radio in her voice. Apart from EastEnders and Call The Midwife, her other notable TV work include, Causality, Doctors, and Twenty Twelve, among others.
