Scottish Actress Kelly MacDonald (Broadwalk Empire) will feature as a guest lead in the upcoming season of Line of Duty, according to the recent news. She’ll play Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson. As BBC teased the character, her unconventional conduct will raise suspicions on her as to the senior investigating officer of an unsolved murder. She’ll be under investigation of Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), DS Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) and DS Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure).
Meanwhile, Joanne will also serve as the prime opponent of AC-12, as mentioned by the show-runner Jed Mercurio. According to his quote, “We’re honored that Kelly Macdonald will join Martin, Vicky, and Adrian in series 6 of Line of Duty. DCI Joanne Davidson will prove the most enigmatic adversary AC-12 has ever faced.”
Showrunner Hinting Guest Stars In Line Of Duty Season 6
Last week only, the mastermind behind the fantastic cop drama, Jed Mercurio, shared a snap of himself on his official Twitter handle. He was accompanied by the mainframes of AC-12, Vicky McClure, Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar at a restaurant. Meanwhile, the caption for the photo was more interesting than the picture, as it read: “Nervously awaiting the arrival of secret guest stars.”

Line Of Duty Season 6: Plot Details
By the end of Season 5, the mystery unraveled that H was not one person, but actually was a group, comprising four Caddies. They were lead by original Caddy DI Matthew “Dot” Cottan. Moreover, the team found out about the other two, ACC Derek Hilton (Paul Higgins), and legal counsel Gill Biggeloe (Polly Walker). Therefore, they will try his best to find the fourth one of the mysterious team H in the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, the sixth season will also look up to OCG member Ryan (Gregory Piper) who has succeeded in getting into police college. He will now become the newest corrupt officer of the force.
Line Of Duty Season 6: Release in 2020
The upcoming season of Line Of Duty has not received any release date yet. However, Mercurio has vaguely hinted that Season 6 will arrive sooner this time. That is because Line Of Duty premieres in every two years. As he stated, “That’s something that we have at the planning stage, so we are working towards a date. We can’t confirm everything until things are in place”. But as the show-runner said, Season 6 would likely premiere in 2020 on BBC One.
